Total Hours: 6 Cumulative Hours: 6 Over our Mardi Gras break, I volunteered twice with my family friends’ organization, Joy of Living, during my trip home to Houston. We served lunch to a group of elderly Venezuelans in the community, creating a warm and welcoming space where they could gather and connect. After the meal, we led an art therapy activity. Instead of just helping from the sidelines, I chose to sit at one of the tables and complete the art project alongside them. What started as a simple painting activity turned into meaningful conversation. While working on our pieces, I began talking with a man who, to my surprise, had known my grandmother in college. Hearing him share stories about her brought such a personal and unexpected depth to the experience. We also hosted a Zumba class that filled the room with music, laughter, and movement.
