Coming back to class this semester has been genuinely exciting. There’s something grounding about settling back into a routine of lectures, readings, and deadlines. At the same time, being back in New Orleans means I still miss my family in Houston, and learning how to balance that distance has been part of my personal growth this term.

Our first module on contraceptives was especially eye-opening for me as a woman. Diving into the pharmacology behind different forms of birth control gave me a much deeper understanding of how they actually work, beyond what’s typically discussed in clinical settings. I was even able to share this knowledge with several of my female friends, helping them better understand medications they use every day.

I’ve also really enjoyed how the curriculum has shifted toward more project-based learning. I recently completed projects on hypoglycemia and bipolar disorder, and presenting on bipolar disorder in my neuropharmacology course was a highlight. The class discussion that followed truly showed me how much I’ve learned. The questions, insights, and conversations were at a level I never would have imagined I could keep up with just a year ago. That experience was incredibly motivating, especially since my long-term goal is to work in the field of psychopharmacology. Having this opportunity so early in the semester has reinforced that I’m exactly where I want to be.

Looking ahead, I’m also excited to begin volunteering again next month and to give back to the New Orleans community that has become such an important part of my journey.

Here's to a great semester!
