I am feeling extremely lucky to have been able to complete my service hours this month with Girls On the Run, an organization here in New Orleans, after a close friend presented me with the opportunity. Girls on the Run is a nonprofit organization that works to empower young girls in grades 3-8 through experience-based running programs. The organization helps
build participants’ social, emotional, and physical skills by inspiring them to be healthy and confident. It is dedicated to helping every single girl recognize and pursue her limitless potential, and I truly felt that in my time with them.
My service has been focused mainly on training sessions, but I hope to continue growing into a role where I can make an even greater impact. I have also included a link to the organization above for anyone who would like to donate or even sign up and join me!
As far as classes this month, I was very excited to finally be able to make it to the Neuropharmacology module, which is my main passion in this field. We learned about what is truly going on inside the bodies of individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and other mood disorders that affect so much of the population. Sharing this knowledge is extremely important to me as society continues to break down mental health stigmas. These are real conditions that affect the body, and they are simply not “all in your head.”
I cannot believe how quickly the year has gone by, but I am eager to continue learning and pushing forward. I know this is only the beginning of my career and professional journey, and I am incredibly grateful to have built such a strong educational foundation to support me
Happy St. Patricks Day!
